Gaming
Playfully to new perspectives
Of course the playful competition is a main part of our festival. During playin’ siegen, expect exciting games organized by our students as well as national and international gaming initiatives.
What would an Urban Games Festival be without giving priority to the playful skills? To form the centerpiece of the event the students of the media studies faculty developed new creative and innovative games. Under the leadership of lecturer Judith Ackermann the students of the master course ‘Urban Games’ already got an impression of how to capture a city playfully. Meanwhile the bachelor’s degree course called ‘Mobile Gaming’ tried to involve smartphones while inventing new games. The students realized their own game ideas and generated new concepts that will premiere during the Urban Games Festival in April.
The developed drafts are completed by international cooperation with different creative partners. Some of them are Urban-Gaming-Initiatives from all over Europe who are already experienced with festivals. To give enthusiastic game developers – if regional, national or international – a chance to be part of the playin’ siegen we established the ‘Call for Games’. A basic requirement is to include urban places like shopping malls or parks in the playground.
Because the interaction with visitors and interested parties is an important component, the Urban Games Festival will offer a variety of game design workshops to help you invent your own games. On the basis of the Street-Game-Assembly-Kit by Gwyn Morfey (¨Fire Hazard¨, UK) you can create and test out your own game prototypes.
